This icon informs you that you don't have Dark Elixir to be collected from your Dark Elixir Drill.

  • The Dark Elixir Drill collects Dark Elixir from an unlimited underground reserve, and stores it until it is collected by the player and placed into a Dark Elixir Storage . When the drill is full, production will be stopped until it is collected.
  • Attackers can steal up to 75% of the uncollected Dark Elixir in the drill. Having too many uncollected resources will make players a more attractive target, so protect them with care.
  • The Dark Elixir Drill takes up a 3x3 tile space.
  • The Dark Elixir Drill is unlocked at Town Hall level 7, along with the Storage. The second and third drills are unlocked at Town Halls 8 and 9, respectively.
  • When you choose to upgrade a Dark Elixir Drill, it will automatically collect any uncollected Dark Elixir. Note that if your Dark Elixir Storage is full at that time, any uncollected Dark Elixir will be lost. During the upgrade the, drill temporarily stops producing Dark Elixir; if it is destroyed in an attack while the upgrade is in progress, the defender will not lose any resources from the drill, as the drill is empty.
  • It can be difficult to see without zooming in, but you can visually tell approximately how much Dark Elixir a Dark Elixir Drill currently contains by looking at the glass box on the top rear portion of the drill. An empty (clear) box means the Drill is less than 20% full, while a full (black) box means the Drill is at least 60% full. Alternatively, you can check the amount of Dark Elixir before attacking in a Multiplayer Battle or from Edit Mode by tapping a Dark Elixir Drill, so that the highlighted Drills will also be selected.
  • Alternatively, you can check the amount of Dark Elixir before attacking in a Multiplayer Battle or from Edit Mode by tapping a Dark Elixir Drill, so that the highlighted Drills will also be selected.
  • You can temporarily boost its production with Gems or a Resource Potion . Spending Gems will double the Drill's production rate for 1 day, while using a Resource Potion will boost all Dark Elixir Drills as well as all Gold Mines and Elixir Collectors .
  • When raiding, the easiest way to tell the difference between the various levels of enemy Drills is to look at the Drill's footings. Unlike the top of the Drill, there is a very recognizable difference between the footings at every level. Alternatively, before attacking a base in a Multiplayer Battle, you can tap a Dark Elixir Drill, and doing so will also reveal the locations of other Dark Elixir Drills, their levels and loot available from them.

  • When initially constructed, the Dark Elixir Drill consists of a huge helical drill head with black metal core and an iron flute, suspended from a arc-shaped wooded head where the top is connected to a ring with four rivets, the head is connected to a large wood piece that is supported by a wooden frame across its middle, where a metal plate is covering that part, and a small Dark Elixir container at the end of the wood piece. The frame consists of mortared stone footings, wooden pillars, a cylindrical support being bolted on top of the pillar with metal disc filling up the gap. A deep hole made of stone, framed with wood and has two metal bolts at the corner, sits under the drill head. When drilling, the entire structure besides the footings is lowered and the drill head spins while dark smoke comes out from the hole. When it has finished drilling, the entire structure except for the footings is raised up again, and the whole process repeats until its capacity is full.
  • At level 2, the four rivets are replaced with a bolt almost covering the whole ring, two bolts are added to the metal plate on the wood piece, and the wood piece is thicker. The top of the wooden pillars and the cylindrical support received metal plating. The footings become smooth white stone with an diagonal cut.
  • At level 3, the head widens and is wider than the wood piece it connects to. The ring, metal plate on the wood piece, and the top of the pillar turn gold, and all the bolts use gray metal; the plate on the pillars is a bit longer. The footings gain a gray metal band plating.
  • At level 4, the footings replace the stone and gray metal plate for black metal.
  • At level 5, the entire structure gets bigger, longer, or wider in general, with a piece of grey metal added in between the head and the wood piece. The footings acquire a gold band plating. The mining hole increases in size, showing the surrounding rocks more clearly.
  • At level 6, the drill's flute has a golden shine. The gold plating on the footings is replaced by a spiked gold plate facing outward.
  • At level 7, the ring, its bolt, and plate on the pillars are slightly larger, and the wood piece plate is now slanted to the side with a groove in the middle. The spiked plate now matches the shape of the footings and is slanted, it has two stages, only the lower one have spikes and it has much fewer. The bolts on the frame around the hold is now made of gray metal.
  • At level 8, the ring is now made of gray metal and connects to the metal piece with a groove in the middle and two little strips of metal connecting to the slanted plate, the bolt on the ring turns golden, and the slanted plate and its bolts are larger. The pillar is made of black metal and the plate is now staged and the outward facing part is thicker. The footings' lower stage plate extends to the top except the middle and spikes are made with black metal, the plate forms a band around the footing where the middle is grooved. The mining hole is now framed with black metal bricks.
  • At level 9, the drill head is bigger. The ring is flattened as a plating and a new golden one is added between the bolt and the plate, the bolt is made of dark metal again and has four strips of metal holding the ring in place. The pillar plate gets a dark metal plate with three golden spikes. The footings plate's spikes become longer and gold once again, a small black metal slab is added to where the lower stage did not extend upward which matches the top being more slanted.
  • At level 10, the four strips around the ring is golden and wider, the strips on the metal piece get wider and taller, and all the wood is now dark brown. The pillars and footings are made of charleston green wood, and the dark metal plate at the top of each pillar plate also turns golden and the bolt gets a gold spike. The footings are taller with the plate barely slanted and the black metal section is cut out and replaced with a gold stud thicker than the plate itself, resembling a crown. The two spikes at the top are shorter and less sharp, with a new one added to the side, and the band is no longer grooved in the middle but the back corners. The mining hole becomes darker, and the frame is now made of charleston green wood.
  • At level 11, TBA.

  • The level 3 Dark Elixir Drill will continue to produce over the course of a full 12-hour shield (assuming it was empty when the shield is obtained). A level 4 Dark Elixir Drill will continue to produce over the course of a full 14-hour shield, while a level 5 Dark Elixir Drill will continue to produce over the course of a full 16-hour shield.
  • According to a tweet by Clash of Clans, Dark Elixir is a renewable clean energy source. This contradicts a post saying Dark Elixir is a form of fossil fuels.

  • Although directly selecting a Dark Elixir Drill with a Dark Elixir bubble above it automatically collects any resources it has stored, there is a way to check how much Dark Elixir has been stored without collecting it. This can be done by moving any other building to an invalid spot on your map (e.g., off the edge of your map, or fully or partially occupied by an obstacle, decoration, or another building) and releasing it while its surrounding square has turned red. Then select the desired Dark Elixir Drill and choose the "Info" option to display the amount of Dark Elixir gathered by the drill to that point.
