Monolith - Building Units in Clash of Clans

Clan Badge

"The Builder 's first experiment in using Dark Elixir for a building resulted in something truly frightful. The stronger the Monolith's target, the more damage it does. Great to have defending your Village , but a little scary to attack against."

  • The Monolith is a defensive building unlocked at Town Hall level 15. it is a single target, slow firing defense that deals additional damage equivalent to the target's maximum health in addition to the base damage of the defense.
  • Rarely among defensive buildings, like the Revenge Tower , it is built and upgraded with Dark Elixir instead of Gold .
  • The projectile changes color depending on the maximum HP of the Troop it targets. The exact ranges vary based on the Monolith's level, but for small units like Archers , Barbarians , Goblins , Wall Breakers , and Minions , the projectile is emerald, for medium-size units like the Giant , Balloon , Hog Rider , or Miner , it is deep sea blue, and for super-tanks like the Golem , Lava Hound , Root Rider , and P.E.K.K.A , it is dark purple.
  • The Monolith can be treated like a slower single-target Inferno Tower ; it makes short work of high-health enemies due to its percentage damage. Unlike the Inferno Tower, it reaches its maximum potential immediately, making it a threat that enemies must address promptly. It also has more range than the Inferno Tower, with a range of 11, which could allow it to target enemies from a much further reach, meaning that it can match the range of the Flame Flinger , the Rocket Spear from the Royal Champion and the Super Minion .

  • The Monolith's main weakness is its rather slow rate of fire, which combined with its single target attacks makes it vulnerable to swarms of smaller units. Complement the Monolith with splash-damage defenses or multi-target Inferno Towers to address this weakness. Put splash and/or multi-targeting defenses beside it to help take out swarms quickly, thus making the Monolith target onto the troops with higher hitpoints, thus giving them a great synergy with each other.

  • Unlike what one may expect, the Rage Spell Tower has no effect on its percentage-based damage bonus. If you wish to take advantage of the Tower, it may be more intuitive to place it near other defenses.

  • As the most devastating aspect of the Monolith is how incredibly fast this defense can take out Heroes and high-hitpoint troops such as Super Witches , you want to avoid it from locking onto them. You can use Freeze Spells or Overgrowth Spells to stop the Monolith from attacking, and Lightning Spells to force it to retarget. Diggy and the Battle Drill can also stun the Monolith to similar effects.
  • With similar hitpoints to a Clan Castle , you may be able to take this out with an Skelly Donut (The combination of Invisibility Spell , Skeleton Spell and Rage Spell ).
  • You can use Skeleton Spells or Bat Spells to distract the Monolith, since it has a slow fire rate, allowing other troops to destroy it before the Monolith destroys them. However, be wary of multi-targeting and splash damage defenses, as the Monolith might target an important unit or Hero.
  • When initially constructed, the Monolith appears to be four large pieces of indigo stone floating over a bottomless pit, attached by four iron chains to keep it from floating away, they widen the most below the midsection and the inner edges have iron linings and the middle has some reinforcements connecting to an indent on the stone pieces. The top is a floating piece of triangular indigo stone that is hollow and split into three pieces at the middle of each edge with iron lining at the edge, a floating orb of dark purple energy floats inside. The foundation is made of indigo stone and have a grind pattern on the inner wall, the edges are made of purplish gray stones, and the corner is just some gray stone. Every once in a while, electricity is emitted from the hole from the bottom to the top of the stones. When attacking, the triangular stone faces toward the unit it targets as the pieces separate equally and fires the energy projectile at the target, with the color being dark teal , indigo , or dark purple depending on the unit's hitpoints, leaving a trail of its matching color. Once this attack is done, the Monolith creates another energy ball of that color and the pieces return to their normal position. This attack animation repeats until the target is defeated or moves out of range. When no units are in range after the target is taken out, the orb defaults to dark purple. At level 2, all the iron linings are changed to gold, the middle bits of reinforcements are now kite-shaped that narrows to the indent, the ones on the floating triangle has ones that face each corner. At each corner of the foundation an indigo stone plate with flat diamond-shaped spike on top layers over it, the gray stone below extends to the inner side of the wall. At level 3, the Monolith's shape changes completely, and its floating stones except the dark gray triangular stone now appear to have a quarter of a circle each and gains more reinforcements. All the indigo parts are now dark gray-colored. Its foundation also turns into a color of dark gray, and its slabs are now heather blue, with the spikes turning into brass, and the sides now having gold lines and gains some dark gray spikes. The chains below become much darker, resembling wires. The bottom pit glows an ebony color. At level 4, the gray parts all become cadet blue, and all the golden parts of the Monolith are now brass-colored. Its triangular stones gain more reinforcements, the kite-shaped reinforcements are removed, and the golden linings gain a thin, stone layer on each. The four floating stones now gain a golden, shield-like reinforcement each. At the foundation, the corner pieces now have two layers, with dark gray stone at the bottom, and blue at the top. Additionally, the gray stone plates are now colored cadet blue, and gains metal reinforcements which connect the corner pieces.

  • The Monolith is nicknamed the "Hero Killer" by Supercell due to it being able to take out Heroes , especially the Barbarian King , with just a few shots.
  • The name "Monolith" refers to "a large single upright block of stone, especially one shaped into or serving as a pillar or monument." An example of this would be the Moai statues of Easter Island , or Stonehenge .

  • Sometimes, the color of the orb may not always match depending on the type of unit it was attacking, most likely if it retargets too quickly. For example, if an Archer was defeated by the Monolith and then targets a Hero, like the Archer Queen , the orb it creates will be green, but the projectile it fires will be dark purple, and will return back to the normal color once she is defeated. This also applies to units that split into sub-units when defeated, such as the Golem and the Lava Hound .

  • The Monolith is theoretically capable of dealing the highest damage per hit out of all defenses in the game. To get the theoretical maximum damage of the Monolith we would have to put it against M.O.M.M.A from the Single Player Campaign , on Hard Mode and under the influence of a Rage Spell Tower, the level 4 Monolith would deal 8,330.72 damage per hit, or 5,553.813 damage per second.
