  • The Cannon is a single-target defense that deals moderate damage. It is the first defensive structure that a player builds at the start of their Clash of Clans adventure. The player is required to build one during the tutorial.
  • Cannons are both cheap and quick to upgrade at lower levels.
  • Cannons can shoot any ground unit , such as Barbarians and Archers , but it can't shoot any air units , such as Dragons , Balloons , etc.
  • Starting from level 7, which requires Town Hall 6, the Master Builder can gear up a Cannon to make it resemble a Double Cannon , if he is available. This also requires at least one Double Cannon in the Builder Base to be level 4 or higher, which requires Builder Hall 4.
  • At Town Hall 16, two level 21 Cannons that are not geared up can be merged to form a Ricochet Cannon , and at Town Hall 17, the geared-up level 21 Cannon and Archer Tower can be merged to form the Multi-Gear Tower .
  • Cannons have a high rate of fire and a decent range, which makes them an ideal deterrent for Wall Breakers (which have very low hitpoints). They can also pick off Archers or Wizards that are used in an attempt to set a funnel.
  • Cannons are very useful for keeping Giants from attacking other defenses.
  • You can defend Mortars and Wizard Towers by placing them within range of Cannons.
  • Make sure Cannons are placed within range of Air Defenses , because Cannons are unable to target air units (or at least in range of an Archer Tower or Wizard Tower which can also target air units). They can also synergize well with Air Defenses specifically.
  • They can also synergize well with Air Defenses specifically.
  • Upgrade these structures and Mortars first at lower levels, as they are one of your main ground defenses. They are also fairly cheap and are among the most common defensive structures available, which makes them a good initial investment for defense.
  • As the description implies, they are best used for point defenses, so putting them a bit outside of your base would be effective.
  • At Town Hall 5 (and above), if two Cannons are placed near each other, it could be a great help as sometimes players mostly try to go for the Archer Towers using Giants, which makes them shotguns thus taking out Giants easily. However, this strategy is much less effective on tanks like the Barbarian King.
  • However, this strategy is much less effective on tanks like the Barbarian King.
  • A geared up Cannon is highly ineffective against swarms of smaller troops due to its slow rate of fire. It may deal lots of damage, but most of its cannonball shots prove to be useless due to low-hitpoint troops dying in few hits and is easily overwhelmed, due to its sluggish retargeting time. In contrast, however, Geared-Up Cannons are more effective against single-target high hitpoint troops. It can easily decimate medium troops, such as Giants, Hog Riders, Valkyries, Druids and Miners (if they are by themselves), and can deal tons of damage to Golems, Ice Golems, Root Riders and P.E.K.K.As. Because of this, geared-up cannons should be placed further within the base rather than outside to maximize their damage output. (This strategy is best for Town Halls 7 to 11).

  • Cannons are one of the defensive buildings that cannot attack air units. This makes them easy pickings for Balloons , Dragons , or Minions if they are not within the range of Air Defenses , Archer Towers , X-Bows (on ground and air mode), Hidden Teslas , or Wizard Towers .
  • Cannons are only able to damage one unit at a time. This makes it very easy to overwhelm them with large groups of Archers or Barbarians . They can also be overwhelmed with higher health units such as Giants , Golems , Yetis , Ice Golems , or P.E.K.K.As .
  • Strong solo troops such as the Super Barbarian , P.E.K.K.A. , or Valkyrie can destroy a Cannon even when surrounded by trash buildings if it has low support.
  • When initially constructed, the Cannon consists of a short dark metal barrel mounted on a crude four-legged wooden rotational mount made of multiple planks on top of a circular metal plate.
  • At level 2, the whole Cannon is bigger. The wood of rotational mount is now one whole piece instead of multiple wooden planks, the legs are rotated 45 degrees and receives wooden stabilizers tied to each legs with ropes.
  • At level 3, the barrel is bigger and receives two decorative latitudinal ridges, one midway along the barrel and one at the rear. The wood of rotational mount is replaced with metal and bottom circular metal plate becomes bigger. The platform's leg stabilizer is removed in favor of a larger and stouter main support platform with the rotational mount is fitted inside, receives riveted metal plates on the sides to anchor the barrel more firmly to the rotational mount, and the wooden legs are replaced with shorter metal legs with a rivet.
  • At level 4, the top of rotational mount is reverted to wood again. The main support is polished, the riveted metal plates and legs are removed for a stone foundation.
  • At level 5, the barrel is bigger and used a darker metal, the decorative ridges are thicker and trimmed to be more pointed, one more is added around the muzzle.
  • At level 6, the rotational mount is raised, and the wooden base and stone foundation are discarded for a taller white stone platform with a pair of gold plate is added to the right edge of the platform and its opposing side, and four short gold-trimmed wooden legs.
  • At level 7, the barrel's decorative middle ridges is made of gold and the bottom rotational mount has a straight edge. There are two additional gold plates perpendicular to the first pair and they are all wider, the side of them also receive a steel bolt with a gold top.
  • At level 8, the rear decorative ridge also becomes gold.
  • At level 9, the muzzle decorative ridge also becomes gold. The bottom rotational mount also becomes gold and four golden spikes are added to the top of the base no occupied by the side gold plate. The gold trimming on the legs is much bigger and the wooden leg is replaced with dark metal with cone-shaped spike.
  • At level 10, the barrel is entirely made of gold and bigger. The main body of the barrel receives triangular reinforcing plates and the decorative ridge are flattened to be a band, with a wider one added to its neck.
  • At level 11, the barrel is transformed into black metal and it is made of lets of flat faces so it is no longer as circular. The triangular plates become fan-shaped and he neck decorative band used a lighter gray metal. The rotational mount and the gold spikes on top of the base also turns into black metal. The legs becomes prominent black crystal footings.
  • At level 12, the neck band is mostly trimmed down and replaced with a red hot ring behind the muzzle. The muzzle band changes from smooth to plated. The triangular plates glows orange under it because of the heat. The rotational mount and the spikes are removed, and gold plate on the base receives a dark red band. The footings are now some small black rocks surrounding a pointed crystal glowing a dull red which is brighter at the tip, similar to the level 4 X-Bow .
  • At level 13, the fan-shaped plates turn into more of a kite shape with a metal rectangle bar at the back, the orange outline now fully surrounds the plates, and a kite-shaped spike is added between the plates on the top of the barrel, which also merged the middle and back decorative bands. The barrel is raised. The neck decorative band now touches the back band and split into pieces that connects to the muzzle plates with strips, with flat gold spike on each plate around the muzzle. The dark red band on the base turns to a dark-gray and the white stone platform is replaced with material similar to the black crystal as it glows a dull red unevenly. The black rocks in the footings turn golden.
  • At level 14, the barrel is much wider. The triangular plates change to a trapezoidal shape and the rectangle bars becomes gold, the orange outline cover it too. The hemisphere at the back is also heated up to an orange color. The strips fastened with nails are now fused to the muzzle itself, there are less of them but are wider, the spikes become bigger, and the ring inside now glows orange as well. The inner muzzle uses a lighter gray metal color it glows a dim red. The base is now a lava pool, a white stone foundation surrounds it and gold linings on the foundation inner edge. Each corner has a cube with three golden spikes protruding.
  • At level 15, the barrel becomes octagonal shaped with two gray metal bands around the neck and muzzle of the barrel, with the neck one held in place with golden circular bolts and a small golden ring hanging from a fitting on each side. In between these two metal bands is a glowing yellow. The rear of the barrel is riveted with metallic strips replacing the trapezoidal plates, having a gold band around where the gold bar was. The muzzle itself is much larger. The base gains some black stone pieces on the corners replacing the spikes, the inner gold lining is replaced golden plates covering most of the remaining edge.
  • At level 16, the band around the muzzle is now even bigger and fused with the muzzle; The band with golden pentagonal bolts now is fully made of gold covering the yellow glow. The kite-shaped spike and the metallic strips are replaced by a metal band with spikes on each side, a thick metal plate run across the back from the top of the band. The base is no longer a lava pool, the rotational mount is visible again and is an octagonal black metal, the base is made of a two-step white stone, mostly covered with blue carpet and gold linings that almost forms an octagon by touching the hypotenuse of the corners while leaving a bit of the stairs visible. The corners are made of black metal in the shape of right-angle triangular prism which extends a bit more at the foundation, the top has a pentagonal bolt.
  • At level 17, the golden band now has big spike on each side and is wide enough to cover the slanted faces in the middle of the barrel, while the main body is now grooved rather than spiked, and thick metal plate and the back of the barrel is also golden. The gold details on the base now fully covers the stairs and even the blue carpet on the first step. The pentagonal bolt on the top of each corner is replaced the with a bigger golden pentagonal screw.
  • At level 18, the barrel uses deep green metal, at the back is a layer of purple metal then another layer of deep green metal. The golden kite-shaped spikes and grey metal strips returns, and the strips are much thicker and connect the main body and the neck, the front of the strip has a deep green spike on top and the back is gold, and the kite-shaped spike is covered with a layer of icy blue metal. The muzzle is covered with a golden band, under the band is a layer of purple metal and the inner muzzle is icy blue. The base sinks down and has a deep turquoise carpet with a ring of purple metal. The corner is also made of deep green metal with two steps, the top is a layer of icy blue metal, and their footing is similar to the strip on the barrel also having the deep green spike. The edges also have what looks like two connected level 5 gold Walls.
  • At level 19, the gold band around the muzzle extends a bit, with a thin layer of grey metal also added to the back. The strips on the main body has a layer gold covering most of it, including the spike, the front of the strip is trimmed to a point. The kite-shaped spikes are now a triangular plate which extends to the back while the gold underneath them is thicker extends more to the front. An icy blue metal band is added at the back of the barrel over the gold that is behind the strip, which connects to the icy blue metal plate. The gold has gotten shinier. The edge of the base has gold spikes and the footings are trapezoidal with a bigger spike.
  • At level 20, the body is now a green metal, with a layer of gold then a layer of purplish-black stone. The main body has a thick golden square wave pattern in a ring. The stone is carved in a way leaving a thin ring of gold band, the gold layer is also carved away leaving a triangle on top and showing the green metal layer; the stone on the neck have a triangle carved out letting green metal have the same pattern as the gold. The muzzle ring uses purplish-black stone instead of icy blue metal and shines green inside. The base is filled with greenish water, the rotational mount is made of purplish-black stone with a small footing on the side. The corners are also made of the purplish-black stone with a thin layer of foundation and gold linings starting from the edge, travels on top, then turn down at the corner. The edge looks like one level 3 Wall with a purple tint connecting to the corners.
  • At level 21, the body is now a purple metal. The main body alternates between a golden Town Hall 15 symbol at the top (upside-down hollow equilateral triangle) and a golden spike on a purple metal band, underneath is a wider gold band then dark purple metal. The muzzle is made of a gold band covered with a thinner dark purple metal band, the inner muzzle shines magenta. The base is mostly dark purple metal and the rotational mount is made of dark purple metal, with the small footing turns into a spike, the spike and the axle is now red. The gold linings on the corners are removed, a right-angle piece of gold is reinforced with dark purple metal plate on the side and a right-angle purple metal piece on top. The edge looks like triangle prism with an equilateral triangle plate on top.
  • At level 2, the whole Cannon is bigger and the base receives a wooden stabilizer tied to the legs with ropes.
  • At level 3, the wood of rotational mount is now one whole piece instead of multiple wooden planks. The base itself rotates 45 degrees and the leg stabilizer becomes stouter.
  • At level 4, the barrel is bigger and receives two decorative latitudinal ridges, one midway along the barrel and one at the rear. The platform's leg stabilizer is removed in favor of a larger and stouter main support platform with the rotational mount is fitted inside and has shorter legs.
  • At level 5, the circular metal plate becomes bigger and the wooden legs are replaced with metal ones with a rivet.
  • At level 6, the wood of rotational mount is replaced with metal. The base receives riveted metal plates on the sides of the platform to anchor the barrel more firmly to the rotational mount.
  • At level 7, the barrel's decorative center ridges are thicker and trimmed to be more pointed, one more is added around the muzzle, and the middle is made of gold. The wooden base is discarded for a bigger white stone platform with four short gold-trimmed wooden legs.
  • At level 8, the rear decorative ridge also becomes gold and the rotational mount is raised. A pair of gold plate is added to the right edge of the platform and its opposing side.
  • At level 9, the muzzle decorative ridge also becomes gold and the bottom rotational mount has a straight edge. There are two additional gold plates perpendicular to the first pair and they are all wider, the side of them also receive a steel bolt with a gold top.

  • When viewing your village, Cannons will appear to aim randomly about. However, they will always be (generally) aiming away from the Town Hall . If the Cannons (or the Town Hall) are moved, the Cannons will instantly orient themselves to point away from the Town Hall's new relative location. This remains true even when the Cannons are being upgraded (except that upgrading Cannons always instantaneously point directly away from the Town Hall with no random movement). The same thing applies to the Mortar, X-Bow (both modes), Scattershot, Monolith, Ricochet Cannon, and the Multi-Gear Tower (in both modes).

  • The Cannon's barrel expands slightly whenever it shoots a cannonball.
  • If the details of the Cannon are opened immediately after gearing up, it will display the damage per second as half that of a normal Cannon instead of burst information. This is likely a bug and is easily fixed by reloading the game.
  • In the Single Player Campaign , the Cannon that appears in the "Payback" level is weaker than a normal level 1 Cannon, doing only 2 damage per second and only having 250 hitpoints. Oddly, that Cannon is also not considered a defensive building, since defense-targeting troops such as the Giant or Balloon would target the Goblin Hall if placed at the bottom of the level.
  • The Cannon is the only defense in the game that appears in all three villages: Home Village, Builder Base, and Clan Capital .
  • At Town Hall 17, all of the normal and geared up Cannons can be merged into Ricochet Cannons and the Multi-Gear Tower. Since merging into those defenses is a requirement to upgrade to future Town Halls, there will be no more normal Cannons at Town Hall 18 or beyond unless more are added.
