  • The Barbarian King is the first Hero unlocked in the Home Village at Town Hall level 7 when players finish the construction of the Hero Hall . He is a larger, stronger, meaner, tougher, more aggressive, more impressive, and more powerful version of the Barbarian .
  • In his default skin, the Barbarian King appears otherwise similar to that of a Barbarian, except being much larger, taller and more muscular man and wearing a brown kilt with a leather belt and a bronze square-shaped buckle, which is held by red straps connected to a golden square buckle with a rounded stub at the center. He has a golden crown on the top of his head, spiked wristbands on both arms, as well as a large, blunt iron sword in his right hand. On his left arm, he has a steel shoulder guard and a brass gauntlet on his hand, and on his feet, he wears a pair of leather sandals.
  • As a Hero, the Barbarian King can participate in both attack and defense, but will not be available to use if he is being upgraded.
  • The Barbarian King will defend the village when assigned to a Hero Banner . The Barbarian King only defends his territory around his assigned banner and will retreat if lured too far out. If he locks onto a troop, he will follow that troop until he dies or that troop is killed. Once the troop is killed, and he is outside of his patrol zone, he will return to patrolling around his assigned banner. You do not need to knock out the Barbarian King to three star a base.
  • The Barbarian King has very high health and a high damage output so he is best used as a tank and a brute force. Deploy him first to distract the defenses then deploy lower health units (like the Archer Queen ) to do the damage behind walls. However, at lower levels, like Town Halls 7 to 9 you might want him inside the base since your Heroes are good damage dealers. Another way to use him is for funneling. He is very clear where to funnel, which can be easier depending on his Equipment.
  • As a Hero, the Barbarian King has an ability that can be used once per battle which allows him to recover some of his health, and the amount increases at every fifth level. The Hero Equipment that he wields may add additional effects to the ability or a unique passive effect, on top of various passive stats increase. When unlocked, he starts with the Barbarian Puppet and Rage Vial. The Barbarian Puppet allows the Barbarian King to summon a large number of raged Barbarians and an increased health recovery. The level of the Barbarians matches the level researched by the player, while the rage increases their damage and movement speed. It gives a passive increase to max health. The Rage Vial enrages the Barbarian King with his ability, increasing his damage and movement speed, and grants a vastly increased health recovery. It gives a passive increase to damage. When the Blacksmith is constructed and is upgraded to level 3 unlocks the Earthquake Boots and Vampstache respectively. The Earthquake Boots deals damage similar to an Earthquake Spell , except that it destroys walls instantly and damages all ground units in its radius. It gives a passive increase to damage and max health. The Vampstache passively restores a small fraction of the King's health every time he lands an attack. It gives a passive increase to damage and attack speed. Additionally, there is Epic rarity Hero Equipment which can be purchased with event medals during certain events or Gems with the Trader . The Giant Gauntlet makes the King grow gigantic, allowing him to deal splash damage, hit buildings behind Walls , and reduces damage taken for a period of time. It gives a passive increase to damage and grants self healing. The Spiky Ball makes the King kick a ricocheting ball which bounces to a number of buildings, dealing massive damage. It gives a passive increase to damage and max health. The Snake Bracelet passively generates Snakes whenever the King takes damage up to a limit, which can jump over Walls. It gives a passive increase to max health and attack speed.

  • The five Home Village Heroes serve different roles in raids. The Barbarian King is the strength specialist, the Minion Prince is the air specialist, the Archer Queen is the speed specialist, the Grand Warden is the support specialist and the Royal Champion is the offense specialist.
  • The Barbarian King can often be used to create funnels; if there are no gaps in nearby Walls , he will stay outside the Walls and clear out buildings placed outside. As he is able to tank a lot of damage, he can be used to clear areas covered by high-DPS defenses, like a Hidden Tesla , Scattershot , Firespitter , or an X-Bow farm (where multiple of the same defense type is grouped to provide concentrated damage). However, air troops may be better suited for the funnel if anti-air DPS is lacking in such areas, and one should still be wary of single-target Inferno Towers and Monoliths , which can quickly defeat him and end the funnel. This can also be commonly referred to as a King Walk.
  • A common way to use the Barbarian King is as a tank as well as the main damage dealer, to distract the defenses to allow troops with low hitpoints to survive. For example, you may use him with the Archer Queen; he tanks the damage and counters them, while the Archer Queen inflicts the secondary damage. This is a common use and starting phase for Heroes in air attacks, where they serve little purpose with the main army, to destroy Air Defenses. The Grand Warden can also be shielded by the Barbarian King at the same time because of his Life Gem or raged up using the Rage Gem, or if you have access to it, an Apprentice Warden for an extra HP boost. This is commonly known as a Hero Dive.
  • When attacking, he can be deployed just like any other unit . When he is damaged, he must sleep to regenerate health before he can be used again. The regeneration time is directly proportional to how much health he must recover. He can be instantly brought up to full health with Gems .
  • He is best used with support from ranged troops, such as the Archer , Wizard , Witch , and the Headhunter to kill air troops and to deal damage behind. However, make sure that the ranged troops are protected from strong splash defenses such as the Scattershot , Mortar , and the Eagle Artillery , otherwise they will be taken out quickly.

  • He is also good for helping to destroy the remaining buildings of a village, after most or all defenses have been destroyed. However, he has a slow movement speed, so you might have to speed him up if you want an effective cleanup procedure, either with his ability or other spells.

  • The Barbarian King can be easily swarmed by a group of Archers or Barbarians , as he only attacks one target at a time and has a somewhat slow attack speed against swarms. However, the Giant Gauntlet ability can negate this, since it allows the King to do splash damage and take less damage by himself.
  • However, the Giant Gauntlet ability can negate this, since it allows the King to do splash damage and take less damage by himself.
  • As his ability recovers some health, you should let your Barbarian King take some damage before activating this ability to maximize the recovered health provided by activating the ability. The exception is at the end of a successful battle where the Barbarian King survives with taking very little or no damage, because if the ability is not activated after battle he will automatically activate it, recovering his health. Depending on Hero Equipment, his ability can be used to speed up the process of clearing the base, when paired with other Hero Equipment.
  • The Barbarian King can be healed by Healing Spells , Healers , Druids , and the Healing Tome of the Grand Warden . However, since he is a Hero, this occurs at 55% of the rate of that of normal troops if you are healing it with a Healing Spell or a Healer. However, in the case of the latter two which heal units, both of them instead heal him with the full amount. The healing time's healing is the same for troops and Heroes, with a 0.3s per healing pulse.
  • The healing time's healing is the same for troops and Heroes, with a 0.3s per healing pulse.
  • Avoid using the ability when the King approaches a Bomb Tower or an area where you suspect a Giant Bomb or Giga Bomb will be, unless you desperately need to recover health. If you do so, the summoned Barbarians will most likely be wiped out by the resulting explosion. However, this becomes much less of an issue with higher level Barbarian King because when the Bomb explodes, it is likely not all of the Barbarians have spawned in yet so only a few of them die. This is only a problem if you are using either the Barbarian Puppet or if the King is too close to damage dealers, since the Giant Bomb can cripple, or even wipe out your whole line of damage-dealing units!
  • This is only a problem if you are using either the Barbarian Puppet or if the King is too close to damage dealers, since the Giant Bomb can cripple, or even wipe out your whole line of damage-dealing units!
  • When you are facing a single-target Inferno Tower , activate the Barbarian King's ability before he is locked on to the Inferno Tower, if you are using the Barbarian Puppet. This way the spawned Barbarians can distract the Inferno Tower and keep the King alive for longer. If you aren't using this equipment, the Earthquake Boots allow the King to access the Inferno Tower, or the Giant Gauntlet can allow him to take reduced damage from it, and to help destroy it quickly with the help of the other Equipment slot.
  • Enable "Automatically use Hero Abilities on KO" in the settings, as there is no real downside to doing so; his Hero ability enhances his sustainability and boosts his damage output, and it might also reduces the time of healing for the hero to be used again, which is noticeable in higher Town Halls.
  • If you are using the Barbarian Puppet, since that ability will summon Barbarians which is the current level inside the Laboratory , it is highly recommended to do so if you use this ability often, as they will become stronger and destroy buildings faster, as well as being a greater distraction. However, this equipment is quite weak, so it is not recommended, due to traps that will destroy the spawned Barbarians.
  • However, this equipment is quite weak, so it is not recommended, due to traps that will destroy the spawned Barbarians.
  • In terms of Pets , the Barbarian King is most commonly either paired with the Mighty Yak at Town Hall 14 or the Phoenix at Town Hall 15 and above. The Mighty Yak specializes in wall-breaking, which is useful to the Barbarian King as he is the only Hero unable to attack over Walls; the Yak can break open walls enabling the King access to buildings inside, and also being a mini-tank for the King. The Phoenix guarantees his survival in battle for a duration, which can be especially useful since the Barbarian King can potentially be defeated mid-ability. Although defenses generally retarget between the King's first defeat and his revival, he is still able to do considerable damage and tank any defenses that happens to target him, allowing the other units to destroy the defenses before they lock onto them. Other useful choices for Pets include Frosty , which can suppress defenses that the King may not be immediately able to reach, and which can easily stay behind him due to its slow movement speed. The Poison Lizard can also stay safely behind the King and enable him to handily tackle multiple defending Heroes at a time especially when combined with his ability, the Angry Jelly can help in Root Rider attacks, as well as to funnel a high-damage King inside the base with its abilities activated, causing massive damage.

  • The Barbarian King generally benefits more from having better levels itself than better equipment levels, so leveling up the Barbarian King should be a priority at all times if you want a good offensive attack. However, higher level equipment is still necessary for an effective attack.
  • Some good Hero Equipment pairings include: The Giant Gauntlet and Rage Vial, which allows the King to do massive amounts of damage, take less damage, wreck compartments and to improve his tanking potential. The Spiky Ball is usually an upgrade to Rage Vial in most situations. Spiky Ball give a huge increase in maximum health and damage passively while also crippling nearby defenses and buildings on its way, if not destroy them. The Rage Vial can also find good synergy with Vampstache, allowing the King to recover health faster and deal more damage at the same time. The Vampstache can also be paired with the Spiky Ball to increase his sustainability on the other perimeters of the base, and to launch the Spiky Ball if necessary to destroy important defenses. Best reserved for air attacks. The Vampstache paired with Snake Bracelet can improve the sustainability of the King extremely well with massive amount of extra max health, Snakes causing distraction, and both equipment giving passive attack speed increase. The Earthquake Boots and Spiky Ball ability combined can destroy most buildings except the Town Hall, which this combo is a great way to destroy the core of a base. When paired with a sufficiently-leveled Fireball , this combo can also destroy the Town Hall, which may apply on Hard Mode. However, some defenses as of the February 10, 2025 update can survive this combo, such as Ricochet Cannons , Monolith , and the Multi-Archer Tower . The Spiky Ball and Snake Bracelet can be used together to allow the King to be excellent at clearing the outer Buildings all by himself without any help.
  • The Giant Gauntlet and Rage Vial, which allows the King to do massive amounts of damage, take less damage, wreck compartments and to improve his tanking potential. The Spiky Ball is usually an upgrade to Rage Vial in most situations. Spiky Ball give a huge increase in maximum health and damage passively while also crippling nearby defenses and buildings on its way, if not destroy them.

  • The Rage Vial can also find good synergy with Vampstache, allowing the King to recover health faster and deal more damage at the same time.
  • The Vampstache can also be paired with the Spiky Ball to increase his sustainability on the other perimeters of the base, and to launch the Spiky Ball if necessary to destroy important defenses. Best reserved for air attacks.
  • The Vampstache paired with Snake Bracelet can improve the sustainability of the King extremely well with massive amount of extra max health, Snakes causing distraction, and both equipment giving passive attack speed increase.

  • Though he is very strong on offense, he only attacks one target at a time on defense which makes him easy to defeat with multiple units, so protect him with splash-damaging defenses.
  • It is a good idea to place the Altar in the middle of a group of storage or other areas that you wish to protect, such as he will patrol around them.
  • The Barbarian King is the only Hero that cannot target aerial units. Despite this, he can still stall air units that do not have a preferred target such as Dragons , because such air units will target him even though he poses no threat to them.
  • Unlike troops in the Clan Castle , the Barbarian King cannot be lured to the edge of the map and then defeated out of range of the defenses (unless his altar is near the edge). If his target moves out of his patrol area, he will retreat and engage another enemy inside his patrol area. If no enemies remain in his patrol area, he will resume patrolling.
  • Although the Barbarian King cannot be lured outside of his patrol range, he will lure attacking troops towards him, sometimes ignoring the structure they were originally targeting. This may be a problem in some cases; if you put the Barbarian King near your Town Hall , the attacking troops can be lured toward the Barbarian King, and consequently get closer to the Town Hall. In other cases, this could be beneficial as it draws enemies in the line of fire.
  • Witches in the Clan Castle make good potential defenders to defeat the Barbarian King, because their summoned Skeletons will distract the King for a period of time. However, using a Poison Spell on the defending Witch(es) or when the Barbarian King has his Giant Gauntlet ability activated or is supported by units with area damage such as Wizards will destroy the summoned Skeletons, rendering them useless.
  • However, using a Poison Spell on the defending Witch(es) or when the Barbarian King has his Giant Gauntlet ability activated or is supported by units with area damage such as Wizards will destroy the summoned Skeletons, rendering them useless.
  • If a defensive King is causing trouble to your troops, use some small troops, such as Barbarians , Archers , or Wizards behind a tanking troop. This will ensure the King is defeated with minimal loss in troops.
  • If the base has no Archer Queen , or if she is far enough away from the Barbarian King, then attack with air troops, away from buildings that target air troops. You may have to deploy ground troops periodically in order to keep the Barbarian King in an area where your aerial troops may safely attack the King, so this strategy may not always be effective.
  • The Minion Prince is able to defeat the Barbarian King, as the latter cannot target the former due to being an air unit, provided that if there are no anti-air defenses and traps nearby.
  • Single-target Inferno Towers and Monoliths (if you have them) are excellent countermeasures against the Barbarian King, as they are able to tear through his health quickly once they reach maximum damage. This usually forces the opponent to use a Freeze Spell or Overgrowth Spell to save their King, however, whether or not the opponent chooses to do so, the summoned Barbarians from the King's Barbarian Puppet's ability will usually overwhelm the Inferno Tower. Consequently, the Inferno Tower itself should be protected by splash damage defenses or Traps such as the Bomb Tower or a Giant Bomb, even if he is enlarged by the Giant Gauntlet.
  • Aerial units such as Balloons and Minions have little to worry from a Barbarian King; he can usually be ignored in such cases. While the Barbarian King cannot retaliate against air troops, he can still distract them away from other valuable targets, such as the Town Hall.
  • Although swarms of troops are effective against the Barbarian King, the P.E.K.K.A is also effective for taking down low level Barbarian Kings.
  • The Barbarian King will never go farther than 7 tiles from his Banner so troops placed over 7 tiles away can attack him without retaliation. In particular, the Grand Warden can snipe him in this way if he is properly placed. If the Barbarian King moves, the troops may come into range of the Barbarian King's tile and be attacked. You can negate his damage by using the Eternal Tome ability of the Grand Warden, but he is generally not considered to be a major threat at higher levels and you may find it more useful to save the ability for tackling a more heavily-defended section of the base or for negating a powerful threat (such as the Giga Tesla , Giga Inferno , or the Giga Bomb 's explosion).
